After this One Night Stand, we guarantee your soul will thank you the morning after. On April 3, monthly cabaret One Night Stand returns to 12 Monkeys Music Hall & Pub in El Pueblo, Ortigas. The theme this time around: “Mga Budding Artists,” a stage for openly gay musical theater actors to sing out and proud for one night only.
Directed by Nar Cabico and Phi Palmos, “Mga Budding Artists” packs oldies but gay goodies into its song selection, from George Michael’s “Faith” to Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” and some undeniably queer hits thrown in for good measure (The Indigo Girls’ “Power of Two,” Queen’s “We are the Champions,” Prince’s “Purple Rain,” to name a few.) Consider these less guilty pleasures and more an empowering medley for your ears—songs that inspired the evening’s openly gay gang of performers— Cabico, Palmos, Lance Busa, Gerhard Krysstopher, Floyd Tena, and Gio Gahol—to march out of the closet.

Whatever you’re going through in your colorful queer existence, there’s a song out there that can give your identity some good, deep aural. With special guest Mark Bautista and Ricci Chan, expect the boys of ONS to make sweet love to each song with loads of heart, hugot, and vocal flair. And those feelings you get afterwards? Well, they’re all worth taking home to bed with you.
Catch One Night Stand’s “Mga Budding Artists” on April 3 (Tuesday), 9PM, at 12 Monkeys Music Hall & Pub. Door charge is 500 pesos. One Night Stand only happens once—no repeats, no reruns.
